Where can I find a good animation video to show me step by step instructions?
Q. I am working on an animation and I have to do two types of animations for this chunky character. 1 is a smear head turn and the 2nd is a regular head turn. His face is chunky and he has a hat and earrings. How do I get those to look smooth?

A. You can try to find animation tutorials and/or references over at youtube.com You can try to animate the "key-frames" first, then animate the "in-between" frames next. Key-frames are your key parts of the action and the in-between frames are every other frame between the key-frames leading up to the moment of action. You should draw the first frame and the last frame of the action as your keyframes (minimal amount of key-frames should be 2 but can end up with more). Let's say for example an action is 5 frames long. Your keyframes are frames 1 and 5. Draw them first. Your in-between frames will be frames 2 through 4. Draw in frame 3 first as your mid point. This will help not only to keep your animation smooth but also maintain your… [cont.]

What is the best animation software for a beginner?
Q. I am looking to start dabbling with making my own little cartoon show with some sort of software. I am not very experinced in actual animation, but have story boards and such down. What is the best bang for my buck? I would like the capability to create characters, have different backgrounds, set backgrounds, sound, sound recording, and be able to watch it like a normal show.

A. For a beginner, most programs you will have to draw stuff yourself, sorry. But I know some pretty good programs for a beginner, and Adobe Flash really isn't for beginners, so don't try that. There is one that you can make animations totally online, it's called www.Doink.com or there's one called www.Aniboom.com . If you're looking for something harder than that, I suggest Easy GIF Animator 4, it's fun and easy to use. And if you have a PCI suggest something called Pencil. There is also a stick figure animator called Pivot, they give you one pre-made stick person in every animation, you can change that one or make your own. None of these programs actually have a sound recording feature, but if you have aPC just upload your animations to… [cont.]

Which art colleges are the best and have good animation programs?
Q. I'm gonna be a senior in high school this year and need to get my butt in gear looking at colleges! I intend to major in animation, so I want to find the best college and animation program that I can. If possible, it would be nice to stay relatively close to Ohio, but that isn't my number one priority... So what is your opinion? Does anyone maybe have experience in an animation program at a certain college that they can vouch for? Any information anyone has would be greatly appreciated!

A. I'm not sure what animation you plan on doing but I find these two useful: iStop Motion - Stopframe and drawn animation iStop is the cheapest out of my recommendations - but it depends if you want to do stop frame or not. You can make frames in other programs and stitch them together, but if you want computer animation go with: Adobe Flash - 2d computer animation Adobe After Effects - 2d computer animation (more for films/ adverts)

Is it possible to do good stop-motion animation with a standard home camcorder?
Q. I have a Sony HD camcorder, and I was wondering if it's possible to do stop-motion animation. I tried pressing the "record" button quickly, but it usually records at least a half second every time I do this and that's much too much time to do effective stop motion animation. Is there another way to do it?
Asked by The CPA Guy - Mon Dec 21 19:31:46 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It's quite a bit more effective to use a either a simple digital camera, or a home camcorder with the help of i-StopMotion - a good program for this. There are settings that will modify the way it records that will allow you to take decent shots. To do any of this though, you definitely need a tripod.

How Can I Make a Flash Animation for TV?
Q. I'm learning flash animation and am wondering once I save the flash file to a dvd format, how does the end-user navigate when they put the dvd into their TV? Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it.
Asked by laurie79 - Wed Mar 25 16:33:57 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It depends on what you're using to make the DVD. You can either make a DVD that plays the movie file as soon as the DVD is in, OR you can create a DVD that has a menu. If you do create a menu, the user will be able to navigate the menu by using a TV remote. Again, if there isn't a menu, it should play automatically. Hope this helps!

What ideas can I do with computer animation for my senior project?
Q. I also need to come up with a product and an essentail question having to do with computer animation. Could anybody help me? Maybe I could create a short animated film about something? Or maybe design a rollarcoaster and make a model out of it?
Asked by sweetbeat - Wed Aug 16 18:46:42 2006 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Those are good ideas. Try a video game, but I really like the rollercoaster because if you're doing a presentation you can have your audience "ride" with the presenation. Like along the ride, have it stop on certain points or even bring up your question. Have the viewer feel like they're riding. Do you want a question like, "How has computer animation evolved since it first started?" or "What can we expect will come from the advancement of computer animation?" I'm not sure if that would help or not. Good luck!

Good luck!
